Trekking in the Himalayas, whether Kanchenjunga in Darjeeling, India; to Everest Base Camp or the Annapurna Loop in Nepal has been one of the true highlights of my life. I was fortunate to first visit Nepal on my cycle tour of 1985/86 and experience the splendour and joys of trekking solo or with a companion. Until I became disabled later in life, I never needed help from a local guide or porter but these days I am very glad of their help and commitment to my health and safety.I hope I will get another opportunity to visit this region of the world again post-Covid. I have seen many changes in Nepal over the years and there is a sense of sadness over many of the changes that have resulted in a deteriorating natural environment in the name of progress.
