Day 23 Tuesday 24 July. Leh

Today I blew my nose which led to a back spasm near my spine. I thought that seemed ridiculous so despite a bit of a twinge cycled down to the Moslem bakery on my bike. By the time I arrived back at the guest house I was in complete agony. It must have been all the hours of jolting through my spine on the bike without suspension on the rough roads. Though at the time I didn’t know what was wrong. I have never been in so much pain for so long. It lasted 24 hours and I imagined this must be what it is like to be tortured. Alan had to nurse me and administer packets of Nurofen and Endone. I could get no relief. I whimpered in pain. I threw up from all the drugs, and panicked that I would somehow be permanently affected.
