Foliage is shed or thinned from the branches on which the white flowers sprout, sometimes producing the sight of a tree half in flower, half in leaf.
The robust woody star-shaped pods hang on the tree intact for some months after opening.
The grey-brown bark sheds in distinctive woody scales which leave depressions.

Cultivation
Adaptable to most soils and tolerates full sun.
The papery seeds germinate quickly if fresh.
